Carl Edwards Wins in Michigan
Carl Edwards won the Citizens Bank 400 at Michigan International Speedway this weekend, ending a 52 race drought, and if you watched the race, you saw him cutting the facial hair of a crew member who had decided no to cut it until they won again. Poor guy. Bet he never makes that bet again and I bet his wife/girl friend is happy as well. Hard to believe that this is just his fifth cup win, he has been running up front and finishing well for awhile, just had not been able to put it in victory lane.
It was, as Edwards handily beat Truex to the line to grab his first win since Nov. 11, 2005, at Texas. He celebrated his fifth career Nextel Cup win with his trademark back flip off the window ledge of his car.
He then gleefully took a pair of scissors to team member Tom Giacchi’s shaggy beard, clipping off a chunk of hair that had been growing since the two vowed in late 2005 that Giacchi wouldn’t shave until Edwards’ next win (watch video).
The victory gave car owner Jack Roush his second win of the season — first since Matt Kenseth won Feb. 25 at California — and temporarily snapped Hendrick Motorsports’ season-long domination. Hendrick cars have won 10 of the 15 races this season.
Roush, who lives in nearby Livonia, makes winning at Michigan a priority for all his drivers and he celebrated twice this weekend — Travis Kvapil also won the Truck Series race Saturday. Source: Edwards wins at Michigan ending 52-race drought
Michael Waltrip finally had a good day this season, finishing in the tenth spot in only his third race of the year. Martin Truex Jr. continued his good run streak of late, finishing in the second position with teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. finishing in fifth, and both drivers congratulating their teams. Tony Stewart started in 41st, dropped back to 43rd and promptly marched up through the field to finish in the third position, Casey Mears also continued his strong runs of late, finishing in 4th, the highest for a Hendrick driver during this race. Jimmie Johnson was running in was in third but ran out of gas with 7 laps to go.
