J.J. Yeley Wins Pole in Michigan

J.J. Yeley has the pole for the race at Michigan International Speedway, the Citizens Bank 400. This is J.J.’s first pole of his career and is kind of surprising by looking at his numbers in Michigan, he finished 40th in his first Cup race there and finished 37 last year after being involved in a wreck. The intermediate tracks like this one have been his best tracks, but his average finish still isn’t the best on those at 24.2. I predict he won’t win this race.

Michael Waltrip qualified for his third race of the year, and will be starting in 18th position. Of the top ten, only two were Dodges, both of the Penske cars of Ryan Newman, starting 4th, and Kurt Busch, starting 10th, the rest were Chevy’s. Of the Hendrick cars, three are starting in the top ten, Jimmie Johnson starts 2nd, Kyle Busch starts 3rd and Jeff Gordon starts in 6th and Casey Mears is starting in the 13th position. Joe Nemechek is the lone standout you wouldn’t expect to start up front, and he is starting in the 5th position, lets just hope he doesn’t wreck Jeff on the first lap, hehe. Sorry Joe.

The fastest Ford was Carl Edwards in 12th starting position, with Greg Biffle in 14th, the surprise for me was Matt Kenseth, who usually runs really well here, starting in 26th position, but, I have no doubts he will be running up front at the end. Tony Stewart took a provisional starting position in 43rd, and knowing ol Smoke, he will be running up front at the end, unless he gets into it with some driver holding him up along the way. Brian Vickers had the fastest Toyota and is starting in the 16th position.
