Ryan Newman Claims Pole in Pocono, Third Straight

Ryan Newman qualified on the pole for the third time in a row, at 170.062 mph, this was the 41st pole of his career. He ended Denny Hamlin’s perfect streak there, Hamlin qualified second this time, but had the pole in the previous two races at Pocono and won both of them. Newman is the only good thing to happen to Roger Penske this week, with the pit road incident and fine for Kurt Busch, this had to help a little.

He has four poles overall this year with no wins. His best finish came Monday at Dover when he finished second behind Martin Truex Jr., and his last win came nearly two years ago.

“It’d be nice to click off three wins in a row, not just three poles in a row,” Newman said. Source: Newman ends Hamlin’s run by taking Pocono pole
