Tony Stewart Wins in Chicago

Tony Stewart wins in Chicagoland
Tony Stewart finally broke the drought, and he did it without getting into it with anyone, well, at least that I noticed. Tony Stewart wins the USG Sheetrock 400 at Chicagoland Speedway shortly after mending the fence with teammate Denny Hamlin.

Tony Stewart is a winner again.

And one day after a brief but intense lecture from Joe Gibbs, Stewart says his rift with teammate Denny Hamlin has been patched.

Stewart won the Nextel Cup race at Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday, breaking a 20-race winless streak that dated to last season and turning around what had otherwise been a tumultuous week for the two-time series champion.

Between the bad breaks that cost him possible victories earlier in the year and this week’s high-profile feud with Hamlin, Stewart seemed more relieved than elated by the victory — though he still managed to climb the front stretch fence in celebration. Jimmie Johnson, who was running second at the time, hit the wall with 45 laps to go, with gave second to Matt Kenseth, who almost got Tony on one restart, but Tony held him off with Matt saying that was about his only chance. Carl Edwards finished third, Kevin Harvick fourth and pole sitter Casey Mears finished fifth. Tony’s last win came on Nov. 5, 2006, at Texas Motor Speedway, with DEI struggling and Hendrick motorsports highest finisher at 5th, I saw some articles proclaiming that they are closing the gap on the Hendrick’s cars, but, even if they are, Gordon still gained about 15 points over second place Denny Hamlin.

Here is how they finished:
