Ryan Newman Takes Pole in Charlotte

I didn’t get to see it, but it looks like Ryan Newman beat Jimmie Johnson out of the pole in Charlotte for this weeks Saturday night race. He was almost six miles an hour faster than the slowest car to make the field, almost a full second quicker as well. Looks like Michael Waltrip Racing is finally turning it around some, or at least he is, as he qualified 19th on time, without any Chase drivers lying back or anything, way to go Michael.

Jimmie Johnson has this tracks number, but can he win this one? Well, sure he can, but he’s not going to and I will tell you why.

1. He was won entirely too many times here. (Okay, not a good reason, but it works for me.)

2. Jeff Gordon used to own this track, but he hasn’t actually finished at Charlotte since October of 2004, while he only had 4 DNF’s in his first 24 races there. He’s due.

3. Jeff Gordon has only won the fall race once. He’s due. (Notice a pattern?)

4. I’m sick of Gordon running bad here.

Okay, none of those are really why he’s going to win Saturday night, but, I just have this feeling, I also have a feeling about Stewart, just not sure how they are going to fit together. ;)

Anyway, I’m picking Jeff Gordon to win in Charlotte.
