Carl Edwards Wins in Dover, Fails Inspection

Carl Edwards won the race in Dover, but he won’t end up with the most points because his car has failed the post race inspection, his right rear fender was too low. Similar penalties in the past have caused the driver to loose 25 points and the crew chief 25,000 dollars, so it could potentially drop Edwards from 3rd to 7th in the standings or worse. Nascar has said they will announce their ruling midweek, so, it’s all speculation until then.

Jeff Gordon regained the points lead, by two little points, over Tony Stewart, as Jimmie Johnson, Martin Truex Jr., Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick all had trouble. Gordon had a so so day, finishing in 11th position, but it was good enough to put him in the lead, so all he has to do is keep it up and keep Stewart behind him.

One of the most interesting things in this race was Denny Hamlin wrecking Kyle Petty and himself and the subsequent confrontation in the pits. Here is the video of the incident.

Carl Edwards dodged the smoke, the skids and the wrecks to win his first Chase race in two seasons and vault five spots in the Chase for the championship standings.

He probably won’t be able to avoid a NASCAR penalty.

The No. 99 Ford failed the post-race inspection because the right-rear fender was too low. NASCAR will likely fine him and dock points that will push him down the standings and negate some of the effort from his win Sunday at Dover International Speedway.
