Miller Lite Would’ve Lost Their Challenge

At the beggining of the season, Miller Lite issued a challenge to Budweiser, they bet [tag]Budweiser[/tag] that [tag]Miller Lite[/tag] driver Kurt Busch will finish ahead of Budweiser driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the final 2006 Nextel Cup Series point standings. The losing sponsor must change the paint scheme on its car to match the winning brand’s car for one Nextel Cup Series points-paying race next year.

Budweiser and Dale Jr kinda laughed at the challenge, seeing it as a marketing attempt by Miller Lite, Dale doesn’t need a rival, he’s the fan favorite as it is, so why take the chance. Too bad Budweiser didn’t accept the challenge, I can see Kurt driving a Bud Lite car right now.

Kurt Busch Wins in Bristol

Dammit. And to top it off, Kenseth wrecks Gordon on the last lap, to knock him from 3rd to 21st. It was a good race up until then. :) Bad week for the race team as well.

Jimmie Johnson wins Daytona 500

Okay, so Jeff Gordon didn’t win it, but atleast the car he partially owns did. It was impressive how he came back at the end, until Kurt Pussy wrecked. And how about Tony Stewart? In a post race interview he made it sound like he was just droppping down in front of Kenseth, are we really supposed to believe that? It looked obvious to me what he did, and if I was Nascar, there wold be penalties, other than going to the back of the line.

Miller Challenges Budweiser

Miller Brewing Company is kicking off a new era in its 35-year history of motorsports sponsorship by boldly declaring its confidence in Kurt Busch’s ability to drive the No. 2 Dodge to Victory Lane.

Miller’s chief marketing officer Tom Long on Friday sent a letter to Anheuser-Busch vice president of brand management Marlene Coulis, betting the beer-market leader that Miller Lite driver Kurt Busch will finish ahead of Budweiser driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the final 2006 Nextel Cup Series point standings.

The terms of the friendly wager: The losing sponsor must change the paint scheme on its car to match the winning brand’s car for one Nextel Cup Series points-paying race next year.

Budweiser has until the start of Sunday’s season-opening race to accept the Miller challenge.

Kick his ass Jr.

Busch, Stewart Fastest In Bud Shootout Practices

Been watching some the Bud Shootout practice sessions on Speed, they’re coveing it all day long I think, and Kurt Busch lead the first practice session, while Tony Stewart lead the second practice session, the one most were concerned about because it was going to be closer to race conditions.

Busch’s No. 5 Chevrolet led the 21 entries in the first 45-minute practice with a lap in 47.283 seconds, an average speed of 190.343 mph.

“The car was good, and it had a good balance to it,” Busch said. “It was driving well and it went to the top of the chart, but it’s not sucking up too well right now — it’s kind of a turd, but we’re going to work on it and make it better.”

Defending Nextel Cup Series champion Stewart, who ran the overall high total of 75 laps in practice, led the second one-hour session in his No. 20 Chevrolet at 193.899 mph, as speeds were up across the board. Source: Nascar.com.

You can still catch a lot of the the coverage on the Speed channel, they are re-running it right now.

Kurt Busch Sentenced to Community Service

Kurt Busch was sentenced to 50 hours of community service in his plea agreement for the wreckless driving charge he recieved before last season’s race in Phoenix.

His lawyer, Lee Stein said his client admitted to speeding, a misdemeanor, and two civil citations: following too closely and passing in a no-passing zone. In exchange, the reckless driving charge was dropped. The community service must be completed within a year, Stein said. Busch also paid $580 in court fines.

Busch was stopped in suburban Tolleson in November after allegedly running a stop sign while speeding. A police report said the deputy smelled alcohol on Busch, and the driver became belligerent. A breath test showed Busch was far below the legal limit for DUI.

“You’re only doing this because you’re a Jeff Gordon fan,” Busch was quoted as saying to the officer in a police report.

There’s no way that cop was a Jeff Gordon fan, if he were really a Jeff Gordon fan, he would’ve taken him to jail and put him in the cell with Otis.

And how dumb is Kurt Busch? What kind of driver leaves the team he won the championship with the previous year? I guess there could be something I don’t know about as I don’t really care to know, like maybe some of the crew was leaving or something, but it just doesn’t make sense.
