Jeff Gordon Shows He Knows How to Race at Talladega

Jeff Gordon wins again at Talladega
Wow, what a race, well, at least the end of it was really good, it was kind of weird with a bunch of the better drivers hanging out in the back most of the day, but, I guess it worked out for Gordon and Johnson anyway, probably a good strategy for this time of the year. I kept wondering when they were going to go to the front, and they finally mentioned it around lap 66 that they were going in about 15 laps, and that is when it started to get interesting.

Here is how the 12 Chase drivers stand in the points, this chart from Nascar says Gordon is 9 points ahead, while the race said 4, so, they may have forgotten to add the five points for leading that last lap.

1 +1 Jeff Gordon 5690 Leader
2 -1 Jimmie Johnson 5681 -9
3 — Clint Bowyer 5627 -63
4 — Tony Stewart 5536 -154
5 +2 Carl Edwards 5490 -200
6 -1 Kevin Harvick 5488 -202
7 +2 Kurt Busch 5480 -210
8 -2 Kyle Busch 5430 -260
9 +3 Denny Hamlin 5423 -267
10 -2 Martin Truex Jr. 5390 -300
11 — Matt Kenseth 5377 -313
12 -2 Jeff Burton 5359 -331

You had the Penske cars already hooked up, Tony Stewart who had been flirting around with the lead all day, and three of the Hendrick cars coming, I guess Kyle was right when he said he wouldn’t help any of his teammates for the rest of the year, he didn’t hang out in the back like they did, and was taken out when Bobby Labonte lost it, which was a pretty weird wreck, even he didn’t know what happened when they interviewed him. Tony was in the lead when the Hendrick cars made it to the front, and he was diving back and forth to stay in front of the fastest line, but when he dove in front of the Penske cars again, they hung him out and took the line with them. He, of course, didn’t take too long to get back, and was riding behind Casey Mears on one of the restarts, Casey was blocking him, so Tony faked right and when Casey went to block him, he stuck his nose in underneath him to hang Casey out and take the spot, a move he put on Juan Montoya as well.

Tony ended up making a third line and when Gordon pulled out on the last lap, Johnson went to block him, but he went up in front of Stewart, who shoved him past Johnson, and no one could catch Gordon before he crossed the finish line. Stewart got hung out right before the finish line and instead of coming in third or fourth, he ended up in 8th position, so I’m sure he was a little aggravated.

Just a short note to remind ESPN and Nascar.com that they both still suck, ESPN did not interview anyone except Jeff Gordon after the race, half the fun is seeing who is mad, who is happy, etc, after the race, it gives you a good inside the race feeling when you know how the drivers feel about a situation or the end of the race. And Nascar.com, I don’t know how many times I have gone to that site to check the race, if it is rain delayed or something and I am at work, and it has crashed all of my browser windows, so I don’t even touch it anymore while the race is going on for fear of loosing something I need. Today, I went to get the list below of how they finished unofficially and it closed every browser window that I had open, including the FIRST time I was writing this post. Of course it was trying to open one of those dynamic windows, real time stats, etc that they have, the static pages on their site are usually okay, it’s those dynamic ones that get me every time. Fix it dammit.
