Finally, Got to See the Prelude to the Dream

Well, I finally was able to see the Prelude to the Dream race at Eldora speedway tonight, they replayed it on Speed, and I got to see all the heat races and the main. It was pretty exciting watching Jeff Gordon come up and take position after position and then the lead from Carl Edwards, but, Gordon didn’t keep the lead for long as Edwards pulled the same move on him, diving down to the bottom and sliding up in front of each other for the pass.

And they were right, all these guys drove their hearts out for the Victory Junction Gang charity, I only wish I would’ve paid for it when it was on pay per view, but we didn’t get to for some reason, I don’t recall why. With Jeff Gordon running up front and vying for the lead after not being in one of these cars for 16 years, you have to give him props, he is a legend on motor sports and hopefully we will see him win his fifth Nascar championship this year.

Ken Schrader ran great, coming close a few times to getting around Gordon, Stewart ran great until the wreck between him and Kasey Kahne, and Juan Montoya running great for being in one of these cars for the first time. Really, really some impressive racing, and I am planning on taking that week off, getting there early, camping out and watching the Prelude next year.

Prelude to the Dream Videos

Finally found some videos from the Prelude to the Dream at Eldora Speedway in Ohio. This is Tony Stewarts dirt track and there is even a video of him getting the track ready for the race. I hope he releases it on video or something so we can see the whole thing.

Here is a short video of the battle for the lead between Jeff Gordon and Carl Edwards, the eventual winner.

Carl Edwards Wins in Eldora

Carl Edwards, who started second, raced to the lead and held off Jeff Gordon and Kyle Busch to win the third annual Prelude to the Dream race at Eldora Speedway this evening. The event featured 26 drivers, each driving a 2,300-pound late-model stock car packing over 800 horsepower, while about 20,000 people jammed the small grandstand, surrounding stands and grassy hillsides to watch the spectacle.

“It’s just unreal,” Edwards said, referring to how close the race was and how Gordon and Busch pressed him. “I’ve sweated out a lot of finishes in a dirt car when you can’t see behind you. I knew they were right there on my tail though.”

“I was right in the middle there, and Carl got back by me on the bottom,” Gordon said. “I just lost a little bit of momentum there and just wasn’t able to get it back.”

“I picked up a lot of respect for the guys that run in dirt,” said Montoya, who finished 15th. “It’s very hard to appreciate how tough it is. It takes a lot.” Source: Edwards outruns other NASCAR drivers at charity duel in the dirt

Prelude to the Dream

Tony Stewart bought the Eldora Speedway, originally called “Auto Racing’s Showcase since 1954″, from original owners Earl and Berneice Baltes in November 2004. The owner said he only sold it to Stewart because he is a true racer, he raced there, had been there as a car owner and as a spectator. Tonight at 6:30 pm you can see the pre-race show on, here, but the event will cost you money as it is on Pay Per View.

Why on Pay Per View? Check out the line up.

Five former Cup champions are scheduled to participate: Bill Elliott (1988), Jeff Gordon (1995, 1997, 1998, 2001), Bobby Labonte (2000), Tony Stewart (2002, 2005), Matt Kenseth (2003).

Three Daytona 500 winners are scheduled to participate: Elliott (1985), Gordon (1997, 1999, 2005), Kevin Harvick (2007).

Drag racing standouts Ron Capps and Cruz Pedregon will compete. Capps has 25 career NHRA victories and has finished second in Funny Car points three times (1998, 2000, 2005). Pedregon won the 1992 NHRA Funny Car title and has 27 career victories.

The elite group of drivers in the field have combined for a staggering 579 victories in Cup (269), Busch (176), Truck (33), Formula One (7), Indy (14), IROC (28) and NHRA (52)competition.

A total of 24 major championships have been won by drivers scheduled to participate.

It should really be a good event to watch, as most of the drivers say they would do it just to win, or for a six pack, hehe. At the very least you’ll be helping raise money for the Victory Junction Gang, which benefits disabled and disadvantaged children.
